Some will remember that phrase from years gone by --- either in the form of a TV show, a kid's game or a town in New Mexico. But a reality concerning truth came flooding into me today.
It's Day 5 in 40 days of praying into the election. The prayer focus today is that God would once again establish HIS WORD as the authoritative, sovereign Word that it is. One prayer point words it this way - "Pray that God would pour out His truth in our dry and thirsty land. Pray that God would give all Americans, from leadership to individuals, an insatiable hunger for His Word."
TRUTH. Yes, that's what we need. Truth. The prayer that began to emerge from my heart was this - "Dear Lord, please let truth be established once again in our nation. That it would be known as absolute truth. That truth would be known as a standard for us to live into, instead of this ambiguous "reality" where we never know right from wrong or up from down. That truth would no longer be 'whatever I need it to be in the moment,' but Truth would be seen as a Person who came to be Truth to us. That truth would flood into our nation and our lives as the freeing agent it is. (As in, 'You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free' - Jn 8:32)."
Then it hit me. Truth is God's gift to us to set us free. No wonder the devil has come against truth with an aggressive frontal assault. He doesn't want us free. He wants us to remain in bondage, hence the "consequence." Truth or consequence. He wants us to be forced into the fallen consequences of not being rooted in truth. If we all define our own truth, then in actuality we're defining our own bondage. However, if we see truth as the absolute standard it is, and we see Truth as the Person of Jesus, then we will live by it and all bondages are broken!
"Dear God, for the sake of our freedom, let Truth sweep through our nation once again."
