"Greatness is imparted in the presence of great men." That's what I spoke at our very first men's group meeting just a couple of hours ago. It's such a true statement. So now I'm in reflecting mode.
Last night I got a great taste of exactly how much the male heart longs to step into greatness. "C'mon, Dad! Watch Captain America with me. It's a great movie." This of course came, not from my daughter's voice, but my son's. I was torn. I was preparing a talk to deliver to our men about greatness and I had to put some last minute touches on what I was going to say. Yet this is my son vying for my attention. So I agreed to watch the first part of the movie.
Have you seen it? A great story line of a puny rejected kid with a huge heart stepping into a huge destiny. But I saw something powerful in watching my son connect with this movie. It speaks to his heart. (It speaks to mine, too.) It says to him, "You were made for greatness. Don't see yourself through the eyes of the world. See yourself through the eyes of destiny." And the Holy Spirit uses a tool of Hollywood to raise up something eternal in my son.
What an ironic moment for me --- needing to finish my thoughts on greatness to share with our men, yet seeing my young powerful warrior reach out with every ounce of his heart to silently shout, "That's going to be me one day!" So I reflect. Greatness really is imparted in the presence of great men. I discovered that for myself in the presence of 28 other men this morning --- and I discovered it in the presence of my own son last night.
Greatness is awaiting.
